Clay Cutters

Travel Mug and Tall Tapered Mug Pottery Project

Create a travel mug or tall tapered handled mug with this coordinated physical clay cutter set from Nerdworks Collective.

Overview

Project Details

Create a travel mug or tall tapered handled mug with this coordinated physical clay cutter set from Nerdworks Collective.

This pottery tool set is designed for slab building and includes the cutter shapes needed to create the main components of the mug designs shown. Use the set to make a classic tall mug with a handle, or switch to the coordinating lid to create a travel-mug style vessel.

Finished Greenware Size

The assembled greenware mug is approximately:

4.75" tall 3.5" wide at the top

These measurements are for the assembled greenware form before firing.

Final fired dimensions will vary according to your clay body's shrinkage rate, construction method, drying, and firing schedule.

Two Mug Styles from One Set

Use the cutters to create:

A tall tapered mug with handle A lidded travel mug Your own variations using textures, stamps, carving, underglaze, transfers, and other surface decoration

The reusable cutters help create consistent slab shapes while leaving the decorating and finishing entirely up to you.

Designed for Pottery Handbuilding

These cutters are intended for use with rolled clay slabs. Cut your components, assemble and refine the form using your preferred pottery techniques, then decorate and fire according to the requirements of your clay and studio.

Because clay thickness and construction techniques vary from potter to potter, some fitting, smoothing, compression, or adjustment during assembly may be required.

What You'll Receive

One physical Travel Mug / Tall Tapered Mug clay cutter set, containing the coordinated cutter pieces shown in the listing photos.

This listing is for the physical cutters. Clay, finished pottery, brushes, tools, and other props shown in the photographs are not included.

Important Size & Shrinkage Information

The approximately 4.75" × 3.5" measurement refers to the greenware mug, not the cutter dimensions and not the final fired dimensions.

Different clay bodies have different shrinkage rates, so please account for the clay you use when determining your expected finished size.

Care

To help protect your cutters, handle and store them carefully and avoid excessive heat or conditions that could warp or damage the printed material.

Please Note

Every potter works a little differently. Slab thickness, clay moisture, joining technique, clay body, drying, and firing can all affect the finished result.

Colors may also appear slightly different depending on your screen and the material/color currently used to manufacture the cutters.

This listing is for a physical pottery tool set. The finished ceramic mugs shown are examples of what the cutter shapes are designed to create and are not included with purchase.
